Mortensen Family Healing Garden at Corewell Ludington Hospital
In tandem with an architectural renovation and creation of a cancer wing by Diekema Haman, OCBA designed a healing garden providing individual resting spaces, programming opportunities, and a year-round view from the interior patient rooms. The vision for the space was to provide a view outward from treatment rooms as well as opportunities to stroll and rest in the garden, while applying design details for optimal safety and accessibility.
The garden is located over several easements, requiring creative solutions such as planting modules to reduce the impacted depth. The garden features two-toned large format pavers, diverse and colorful landscaping, large planters with trees, site furnishings, a shade canopy, a decorative screen, and site lighting.
